As of Nov. 8, the varsity football team ended the season with a perfect 10-0 record and are district champions. This is the team’s fourth year having this title meaning they won 40 consecutive regular season games.   

“[The] season is going good,” Junior running back Emani Bailey said. “We’ve been coming together as a team and we’ve been working real hard to get back to where we were last year.” Last year, the team made it to state semi-finalist; they won every game up until that point.

Senior linebacker Asher Finke and senior running back Quincy Gulley both said the second game of the season against Keller Fossil Ridge was the hardest to play.

“The overtime and the rain (made it difficult to play),” Finke said. “They were talking a lot and actually gave us a pretty hard time.”

The Raiders ended up pulling through and winning the game 26-19. Finke said his favorite part about going to a game is “the experience.”

“Especially on the way back,” Finke said. “It’s just fun hanging out with the team.”

In the last game of the season against the Birdville Hawks, the Raiders didn’t start off like they usually do. Both the Raiders and the Hawks were undefeated (9-0) teams; the title of district champion would go to the winner. Birdville led with two touchdowns before Ryan scored with less than a minute left in the quarter.

     From there, the Raiders brought their usual game and ended with a score of 49-28, earning them the title of District Champions. The Raiders are currently in the playoffs and won the first four rounds: 65-24 against Fort Worth Brewer, against El Paso Del Valle, 42-14, 30-0 against Lubbock Coronado, 28-49 against Birdville Hawks before losing 21-43 against Highland Park in the semi-final round.
