Girls track team finishes successful season
At the beginning of the track season, senior Mahogany Smith made positive predictions for the girls team’s performance, saying “I expect us to be successful this season, make it far as a whole team, and win … I’m confident that the team will make it to regionals this year.”
She was right. Although the district meet was the season finale for most members of the girls track team, the group finished strong, with one athlete and two relays advancing to the Area competition on April 26, and several other athletes landing in the top four.
Sophomore Sage Lancaster brought home a silver medal in the 3200 and took fourth place in both the 800 and the mile. Meanwhile, the 400 relay team achieved third place while the 800 relay team took fourth.
In addition, sophomore Rachel Womack took third in pole vaulting, and junior Wellsley Lahart accomplished fourth in shot put.
Lahart said that the most memorable moments of every season are the meets.
“They’re so much fun,” Lahart said. “Just getting to hang out with everyone, cheer everyone on.”
When asked what she would miss most at the end of the season, Adyson De La Torre said, “Definitely my teammates and my coaches. I’m a senior, so this is my last year to ever compete with them and be around them all.”
Lahart echoed these sentiments.
“I’m going to miss hanging out with everyone, seeing everyone after school every day, having fun at the track meets,” she said.
