Varsity girls basketball faces challenges

The varsity girls had a difficult run this season. They had several wins, but in the end, came up short against stronger teams, ending with a 10-19 overall record and a 3-9 record in district.

Junior Yasmin Johnson identified the team’s greatest strength throughout this season’s adversity.

“We had a lot of teamwork,” Johnson said. “No matter the outcome, we still had each other.”

A 37-36 win against Frisco Heritage at the beginning of the season set them on a course for success. The Mavs Fall Classic Tournament saw the team falter with a 31-68 loss against Prosper, a 57-37 win against Frisco Reedy, but a subsequent 42-75 loss against Lubbock Monterrey. Several of the team’s losses were extremely close, like their 53-55 loss against the Colony, and their 41-42 loss against Lake Dallas at the end of their season.

Looking back on the season’s losses, Johnson had some ideas for how the team could be better prepared for next season.

“We could improve on our attitudes,” Johnson said. “Then we would look at the game differently.”
